Brian Lorentz is an AgriPro associate and seed manager at Columbia grain, Inc., in Idaho.

My name is Brian Lorentz, and I am an AgriPro® associate and the seed manager for Columbia Grain, Inc.’s Idaho and Washington division. We help manage about 200,000 acres of white and red wheat, barley, peas, lentils, garbanzo beans, canola, flax and oats. I grew up on a farm in Cottonwood, Idaho, and graduated from the University of Idaho with a degree in Ag Mechanization. After graduating from college, I began working at the university for several years before joining Columbia Grain, Inc. in 1995.

Columbia Grain, Inc. is a leading grain exporter in the Pacific Northwest and the number three grain handler in North America. We deliver a wide variety of quality bulk grains and pulses from the western United States and serve growers in Montana, North Dakota and the Pacific Northwest with more than 40 locations. The Grangeville location offers soft wheat and hard wheat seed, feed and malting barley, and pulse products to our customers. As manager of the facility, I handle a little bit of everything, from dumping grain trucks to selling seed to buying grain. We also have a processing plant, where we process both commercial and certified seed. In the Idaho region, we have three certified seed plants.

Our grain company has been selling and using Syngenta products for several years. As of last year, about 80 percent of Grangeville’s winter wheat seed sales were AgriPro® brand varieties, with winter wheat variety SY Ovation being our leading seller. We also grow and sell AP 700 CL, Whetstone and AP Legacy seed varieties and treat our seed with several Syngenta Seedcare products, including Vibrance® seed treatment fungicide brands.

I have been married to my wife for more than 30 years and I have a daughter and son. During my free time, I enjoy deer and elk hunting, fishing for salmon and steelhead year around, four-wheeling and trap shooting. I look forward to sharing my 2015 season with you.
